Charly's daughter, Rhiannon receives award!

Congratulations Rhiannon! Rhi's mom, Charly, is my very dear Australian friend and we are all so proud of Rhi's recent award! Read this directly quoted from Charly's blog
Charly Leetham
I am very big on encouraging my children to have online businesses. Today, I received the best news ever!

My 12 year old Daughter, Rhiannon, has been selected as one of two Under 16 year old entrepreneurs to be featured in a book written by Business Writer Peter Economy.

Rhiannon receives this honour through a competition run by Jenny Ford from Cash Smart Kids and will be featured in Peter’s 2008 Charity Book Project. The Charity Book Project was developed by Peter Economy as a way to use his passion - writing - to give something back, and hopefully to make the world a better place.

His plan? To write a book each year, with a co-author, and donate the proceeds to charity. In the first year, 2008, he has chosen to work with Jenny Ford and write a book to empower parents to teach their kids the money and business skills they need to be self-sufficient in the modern economy.

Jenny devised a competition where the kids had to develop a 2 minute YouTube Video or write a Hubpage about their business. Two winners would be chosen.

Rhiannon will be profiled alongside big names like Ben Casnocha, who started a software business at 13, and was CEO of a Silicon Valley start-up by seventeen.

Jenny’s announcement was made on her blog today - Raising Entrepreneurs.

Rhiannons website helps people Learn To Be Psychic and the blog helps her share experiences and lessons she is learning.

54 Squidoo Lenses Completed

I did it! I realized my Squidoo goal! I have completed 54 Squidoo lenses! You can view them all at My Lensography ! There is all kinds of information there -from recipes to reunions to weddings and a Tate Family Sing-Along! So do stop by and say hello!

Also, the Tate Girls (my sisters and me) were featured on Insightful Nana's blog. That was great fun, too! It's nice to be on the internet with both my sisters -- especially since all 3 of us are over 60! When we were little girls, we had never heard of a computer, much less the internet! And here we are -- all these years later! Our dad used to say "the curtain falls and time passes." He was right! And that time seems to speed up with every passing year!

June is the Mid-Month

As you know, I love setting goals and cutting out pictures on New Year's Eve. If you have downloaded the Ten By Ten workbook http://joyfulacquisitions.com, June is a pivotal month. We are halfway through 2008. Have you totally completed your workbook? Are there 10 clear things you want to be/do/achieve/see before 2010?

Look at your workbook some time this month. Spend some time with it. Does it need more color? Does it still excite you?

Two Wolves

Another e-mail favorite -- author unknown. something to seriously think about, tho. Which wolf are you feeding right now? Hour by hour we need to watch our thoughts.

A very old and very wise Cherokee grand father was teaching his grandchildren about life, "A fight is going on inside of me...It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, pride, and superiority. The other wolf stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The same fight is going on inside of you and every other person as well.

The grandchildren thought about this story for a moment and one child asked, "Which wolf will win grandfather?"

The old Cherokee grandfather sat up and replied, "The one that I feed."

Dealing with Stress

I received this in my e-mail today. I do not know who wrote it, but it is entirely too good not to post.

so here tis. and if you know who wrote this, please let me know. Thank you!

A lecturer when explaining stress management to an audience,
Raised a glass of water and asked
'How heavy is this glass of water?'

Answers called out ranged from 200g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, 'The absolute weight doesn't matter.
It depends on how long you try to hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.

If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.

If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.

In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.'

He continued,

'And that's the way it is with stress management.

If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later,

As the burden becomes increasingly heavy,

We won't be able to carry on. '

'As with the glass of water,

You have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.

When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden.'

'So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.

Don't carry it home.

You can pick it up tomorrow.

Whatever burdens you're carrying now,

Let them down for a moment if you can.'

So, my friend, Put down anything that may be a burden to you right now.

Don't pick it up again until after you've rested a while.

Here are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

* Accept that some days you're the pigeon,
And some days you're the statue.

* Always keep your words soft and sweet,
Just in case you have to eat them.

* Always read stuff that will make you look good
If you die in the middle of it.

* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be
Recalled by their maker.

* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again,
It was probably worth it.

* It may be that your sole purpose in l ife is simply be kind to others.

* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time,
Because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

* Nobody cares if you can't dance well.
Just get up and dance.

* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.

* The second mouse gets the cheese.

* When everything's coming your way,
You're in the wrong lane.

* Birthdays are good for you.
The more you have, the longer you live.

* You may be only one person in the world,
But you may also be the world to one person.

* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

* We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

*A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Kate Loving Shenk, guest writer

Kate Loving Shenk

More Ways to Beat the Blues from Kate
Joan Adams and sister Betty DeLorme have compiled a great
electronic book on different approaches to staying on a
high vibrational plane, how to lift your mood when feeling
blue, how to take action when you are feeling sad.

I am proud to say that I wrote a chapter for their book
called: "Thoughts Are Alive!!"

Each chapter gives direction on Banishing The Blahs, lifting
your mood and boosting your spirit! In fact, the act of
reading these chapters immediately rises your mood,
whatever it is
you are experiencing!

Here is a link to buy Joan and Betty's book right now!!

Banish the Blahs and Be Happy

I thought I'd make a list of my own personal favorite mood
enhancers to add to the treasure chest:

1) Turn off the Television.

I like to be up on what is happening in the world, but
watching the news is a downer I no longer wish to
participate in. The pundits tell people how to think based on their own
prejudice, they tell people how to vote, and in essence, no longer
objectively report the news.

2) Sit in your favorite chair and bask in a sun beam.

3) Meditate with your favorite cat resting on your knee.

4) Seek out periods of silence every day.

5) Concentrate on the Life Force present behind each in
and out breath, all day long. These are private and joyous
three dimensional moments you share only with yourself and can
be done no matter what is going on around you.

6) Prevent depression--avoid Crazymakers.

crazymakers

7) Do not participate in gossip or join others when they
are complaining. You will feel much better by avoiding the
negativity.

8) Start your own blog and write several posts a week. Do
this only if you love to write. This will help you because
you are sharing your talents with the world.

9) Encourage people to comment on your blog. That way an
open discussion ensues and you feel connected to your
audience.

10) Sit, walk and sleep with your dogs.

11) Create a "dream board" as Joan describes in her
electronic book called "10 X 10." This is a free Electronic
Book and you can have it by going here:

Ten by Ten 10 Things I want to Do Be Accomplish See by 2010

12 )Amanda Goldston recommends an "Ideal Day Fun Card" in
Joan and Betty's book. This involves first of all writing down
everythingyou can think of that you would BE, DO, or Have every day
that brings you joy and also is Fun!!

Then you find pictures that represent these things and
paste and laminate these pictures on a 3X5 card and carry it around
with you.

Everything on this card should make you smile! Touch the
card in your pocket several times a day. The power of this visualization tool
is evidenced by your dreams and visions manifesting faster into your
life.

13) Go out at night and gaze into the starry sky. Learn
the constellations and pick them out. Identify the so-called ecliptic and
recognize the Astrological constellations there: Aries, Pisces, Gemini,
Cancer, Leo etc.

Star gazing is even more fun with a telescope. Naturally
you will want to do this at a location removed from the bright lights
of the city.

14) Figure out when a lunar eclipse is going to happen.
Then make sure you are available to in-joy it. This celestial event is
soothing, calming and meditative. My husband and
I recently watched an eclipse together and we agreed that
that this was wonderful quality time.

Time slowed down, we held hands, and watched the moon in
all of her phases until she was dark, except for a faint outline of the
moon's circumference.

I read that this particular eclipse saved Christopher Columbus and his
crew so many moons ago.

He read in his Almanac that an eclipse was going to occur
the following night. He and his crew were held captive by the Indians who
threatened to kill them.

Columbus said: The moon will disappear then will return
because you allowed us to live.

And the rest is his-story.

15) Stroke your dog and/or cat and kiss them. Throw balls
for your dog. Massage her back.
Clip her nails. Brush her coat. Watch for the look of
gratitude which beams from her joyful face.

16) Learn to fully embrace life. Allow resistance to What
Is to simply melt away. Be in the moment where you find yourself. Allow that
moment to expand and realize that this is the only moment, not a series of
moments on a linear time belt.

It all is right Now. Learn to experience this and allow it
to grow.

Lessons from My Grandson

How quickly children reframe, forgive and move on!! A lesson for all of us in this conversation with my 4 year old grandson!!

"Joan Joan, when is Poppy coming home?"

Oh, he is playing golf. He won't be home till after gymnastics.

"Joan-Joan, Poppy forgot something"

What did he forget?

"Me" (with the saddest little face on earth!)

and a few seconds later, while I was still reeling, he said,

"Oh,he can play golf with me after gymnastics and I go see the kittens"

Powerful lessons if we just learn them as they are taught, right?

Thankful to be an American

I did my income tax extension yesterday -- on line. Stressed me out, as usual. But then, I got serious about it. How thankful I am to live in this country -- even with my complaints and my strong opinions about how things "ought" to be, I am truly thankful.

It is springtime in South Carolina -- almost perfect. The flowers are blooming. And although there is a little nip in the air today, the sun is shining. Children are outside safely playing. and Life is Good!

Now to get busy on those taxes -- extension only means I procrastinated with permission -- still has to be done!!! and I will be thankful as I do the work! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

I have just heard about a fascinating new competition - for kids who have businesses, no less!

There is a book coming out about money-savvy kids, a fund-raising project for charity, and they are currently looking for two entrepreneurs under the age of sixteen to profile in the book.

All your child needs to do is make a two-minute video about their business and put it on YouTube tagged "cash smart kids".

If they don't have a business yet, there is enough time to get one up and running before the competition closes, so it's worth checking it out. The publicity would be a huge boost - what a way to get them started!

Full competition details at: http://raisingentrepreneurs.org/blog/2008/04/07/kids-in-business-ca

and if you are interested in following the progress of the Charity Book Project, which is raising funds for microfinance charity, you can register your interest at http://raisingentrepreneurs.org, and you will get an email - an OCCASIONAL email - when something notable happens.

Banish the Blahs and Be Happy!

Have you ever been lonely? Have you ever been blue? Yes, yes, we all have!!
Would you like to reduce the number of blue days and create some happy days for yourself? Wouldn't you like to know how to switch your own attitude?

My sister, Betty DeLorme, and I have compiled our blues-fighting techniques into a book. And 10 of our on-line friends have added their thoughts as well. It's serious, it's funny, it's thoughtful, it is "do-able".

One of our readers had this to say about Banish the Blahs:

I have just finished reading Banish The Blahs And Be Happy. I found so many great ideas for lifting myself out of the “Blahs.” “Give Away A Dollar A Day” and “Act Your Age or Not” are practical ideas and were especially inspiring to me. Just the other day, I was feeling out of sorts, so I sat down and read a book to one of my grandchildren. You’re right Joan, it changed my mood immediately. Simple but powerful ideas… Thanks Joan and Betty.

Jesus and The Secret

What do you think Jesus would think about The Secret and the Law of Attraction? How about Hooponopono?
For the next few weeks, we will be discussing this issue on this blog. Did not Jesus say "you can do anything I am doing?" "I came that they might have Life and have it more abundantly?"
I am no theologian, but have been studying spiritual matters for most of my life. I simply do not see any conflict here, and I know my conservative friends feel differently about it. For me, creating imaging pages, practicing the techniques taught in The Secret, using affirmations are just tools to help me to connect with the Christ within me.
How do you feel about this issue?
I welcome your remarks, however, any comments that are offensive or rude will be removed immediately. Let us talk about this like adults. No preaching allowed. This is an adult discussion. We can disagree without harsh conflict. On with the discussion!

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

My dad used to have that sign (Today is the first day..) hanging in the kitchen in his home. The older I get, the more aware I am of that fact. Indeed, today is the day -- to accomplish, to be, to love.

I am thankful today for all of the love in my life.

Trash to Treasure

I almost pitched it out. It was a glass jar my husband spotted in the garage of a relative. We brought it home with other family treasures we had been given. For two or three days, I had soaked that jar in bleach and soapy water. Today I decided to take a look at it. It was sparkling and rather interesting. I read the bottom, looked it up on the net, and yes, it is a treasure. My husband is still laughing at me. I had agreed to clean it only after a significant number of deep sighs and moans and groans. I am glad I cleaned it up.

Of course, I am reminded of all the treasures I may have pitched. But I am also thinking that sometimes, when we put in a little effort, our reward is a happy surprise! Something in your life that needs a little extra effort today?? My list is getting longer!

Starting Over -- Again

Life just seems filled with "starting over" projects sometimes. It seems we are forever saying goodbye and hello, doesn't it?

One thing is certain in life and that thing is Change!

So today, as I relaunch my life for the zillionth time, I hope you will join me -- in accepting that change is inevitable, in learning that we grow with each change, and in prayer that my changes are for the better.
